Charry/LH,

chris zachary posted a video of new profractional with coag. on youtube if you want to see. http://youtube.com/watch?v=b_B8urjXSIc

Thanks dexter.
Very good and very fast the new Profractional-XC.I have also heard that Sciton will release on September or so a Multifractional laser that it can be tuned like the TRL for Contour Erbium laser, where someone can simulate Erbium YSGG and CO2 wavelengths.Anyway the new Profractional-XC is a very good fractional, maybe the best Fractional ErYAG.

If you didn't notice, the Xc slowed significantly when they added the coag. They only had the coag on for a couple of pulses. I think the unit they used had dual erbium heads so that also speeds things up. I would like to see more of the XC in action with the coag on and see if contraction occurs.

I am still hopeful i can get my hands on the laser at the Aesthetics Show in Las Vegas this weekend. I will also be taking a closer look at the Pro-Lipo.

I noticed all that you said. It's true that it slowed when they added coag.Maybe they had dual erbium modules on it.Please post your impressions from XC and Pro-lipo if you can, after the Aesthetic Show, because Greece is too far from Las Vegas.

Hello! I am interested in the Sciton profractional device for my medical spa. It seems quite expensive, is it worth it? Are you happy with the results? How is the customer service of Sciton? Does Sciton help you market their laser?

Savitha Susarla

The following are informations based on my questions by the product manager of Sciton in Europe about the new Profractional-XC
"1) Up to which depth in microns can you select the depth of ablation and coag?

Ablation: 25 - 1500 microns
Coagulation: Level 1 - approx. 50 microns (laterally and underneath)
Level 2 - approx. 100 microns (laterally and underneath)
Level 3 - approx. 150 microns (laterally and underneath)

2) Does it allow independent selection of ablation and coag?

Yes.

3) Are the dual Er:YAG heads necessary for coag function?

No. You can deliver coag with one head as well, simply it will be twice as slower."

LH
If you got your hands on the laser at the Aesthetic Show please post your impressions.

Charry/LH,

Last week I had the profracional xc delivered to the office. I can tell you a few things:
1. It's about 3-4 times faster. You can do a full face in 15 minutes. We only have a single erbium.
2. It does slow down when you add coag. There are three levels: 1, 2, 3.
3. We did see some shrinkage around the eyes. Not as much as 100% coverage we see with resurfacing but we expected that.
On a side note, I question whether you are ever going to be able to see as much contraction as 100% removal whether it's erbium or CO2. the only videos and evidence i ever seen of this with CO2 is on forearm skin which tends to contract easier.
4. You have two density settings which are 5.5% and 11%. Our regular profractional does give you the ability to have more options with density.

In summary, with the addition of coagulation I just don't see why you would buy a CO2 laser. I think it's fair to say this in the Sciton forum. I just don't understand all the hype. Our patients tend to be more interested in lower downtime so we can give them that with erbium. However, now if they can handle longer healing times we can either go deeper, which I think is the main factor when treating wrinkles, or add coag. for the areas we need coag. Although we will still probably just use the higher coag. settings using 100% coverage because it's more dramatic and we have a lot of experience and good results with it.

If you want to know anything else I'd be happy to disclose.

Dexter

So the new Profractional-XC instead of the old version has only two density settings 5.5% and 11%?You saw shrinkage around the eyes with the use of Level 3 coag?

06.3 | Unregistered CommenterCharry

You are correct about the density settings.

It was coag level 2.

06.3 | Unregistered Commenterdexter

Dexter
So you worked at 11% density and coag Level 2?So i could say that if you had used the Level 3 coag the contraction around the eyes and the improvement of wrinkles would be much better.Thank you!!

The other difference from the old version is the bigger spot 420μm vs 250μm on the old one?

Hi,

I just had the Sciton Rep in the office for a visit. I have a few questions about the BBL. We are only interted in the BBL IPL for Pigment, Vascular and Hair.

1. Does it work well for Hair Removal?
2. Can you do pigment in Asians and darker skin types?
3. How is the training and support from Sciton?
4. Does the company have good continuing education (newsletters and/or eblasts?
5. Does the company encourage "clinical exchange" between its users (internet blogs or bulletin boards?
6. Is the warrently for 300,000 pulses or is it longer (1 million)? Does the unit break down or is it reliable?
7. And the last and most important question: Do you get great clinical results with few complications and is the company good to work with?

Would you buy it again or would you buy another IPL? Are there any used BBLs on the market?

Thanks.

Another question: Do you use it to treat dark circles under the eyes that are caused by pigment and vascular issues? How does it work? Thanks again.

I am a Dermatologist outside the USA in Europe(Greece).I have been using almost 3 years my BBL.I will try to answer your questions
1)Yes,it is working perfect for Hair removal. It has also a large and a small spot. It's equal and even better than the Alex 755(I have one by the Cynosure).
2)I have been using it for pigment in Mediterranean patients with very good results with 2-3 sessions.
3)I have a very good relationship with the local Sciton's representative.I have no complain from the company.
4)The warranty is for unlimited pulses for 1 year. The unit is very reliable and it is easy for a doctor to use it.You can do two or three treatments in the same session, and you can combine the filters(so the wavelengths) easily.
5)It has a very good cooling system with adjustable temperature on it.

If i was three years ago,i would buy it again.Only this,an Nd YAG(I have it also on my Profile) and an ErYAG.With only these systems you can do the 99% of the laser procedures for a Derm office.

06.4 | Unregistered CommenterCharry

Charry,

In the US the warranty is now 3 years unlimited pulses with the BBL.

Jee,

I have had my BBL for a little over 1 year and I would buy it again. I have had great success with it and absolutely no problems.

Dexter/Charry/LH/Kenneth Wang and anyone else

Hello again! I have several questions regarding sciton's microlaserpeel and profractional

1. are there any serious complications i should be concerned about?
2. does sciton have trained laser technicians to answer any questions i have?
3. can you see results after one treatment?
4. does sciton help you market the laser?
5. are there any hidden costs?

i am not looking into the BBL because i am pretty happy with my current IPL. i need a laser more aggressive with some potential downtime with good results.

thanks!

dr savitha susarla

Savitha,

1. If used properly, not really. Maybe some hyperpigmentation, but you can control that by using good preventative measures like hydroquinone.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. They are a sound manufacturing company that builds a sound product. Marketing is a little lacking.
5. No hidden costs/consumbales etc.

microlaserpeel and profractional are our biggest money makers with the laser. good luck.

Dexter

Thank you for your input!!
More questions...
1. How much do you charge? Do you charge per treatment of package?
2. How did you market the device?

Charry and LH

How do you treat dark circles under the eyes that are caused by pigment and vascularity?

06.6 | Unregistered CommenterJEE

Do you mean pigment and vascular lessions on the lower eyelid? If you do,yes i am using the BBL for treating these lessions.

06.6 | Unregistered CommenterCharry

Charry,

Yes, the Lower Eyelid and under the eye (right where the tear trough is).
Does BBL work well?
What settings do you use?
What filters do you use?
Thanks.

06.6 | Unregistered CommenterJEE

JEE

BBL works very well for pigment problems in these areas. For treating these lessions you could use the 515nm filter starting at the first session from 10-11J/cm for pt type 2-3 and with a little lower fluence 9-10J/cm for pt type 4.If there is an abnormal vascularity (eg.Poikiloderma Civatte) you could use also the 560nm filter.

Service Tech: DO you have an e-mail address where you can be contacted?

Med Spa Guy

Hi Charry

I have a question about the BBL. What do you use to clean the filters? I just want to make sure to not scratch the surface.

Thanks
