Physician to Physician Discussions > Smoke Evacuators for Laser Hair Removal

Any recommendations for a cost effective smoke evacuator for laser hair removal? The filters (good for one tx???) seem to be the limiting factor on those I've looked at.

We use the Buffalo filter for Lux2940 skin resurfacing. We don't use anything for LHR because we shave patients first. Here is their website: http://www.buffalofilter.com/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=62

I was told by a Buffalo Filter V.P. recently that they have a special filter which makes the unit effective for removing the extremely offensive aroma of singed, burning hair. I don't think it is a single use situation but you can check with Buffalo Filter. They make a very nice, reliable unit. I have used it extensively for Er:YAG laser smoke evacuation.

We purchased a Buffalo Filter system. They were pleasant to deal with. The system cost around $1300 with initial filters. I estimate the filters will cost around $5.00 per hour of treatment time which is acceptable to me. It definately has decreased the burned hair smell outside the room. I do have 2 complaints about the system. First off, at 100% power it's extremely loud. After running the machine (plus the laser) for full legs, my ears were ringing for over an hour afterwards. I thought I'd have to get hearing protection to use the machine! The last time I used it, the noise was tolerable at 70 - 80% power and did enough to evacuate the hair smell. Secondly, the unit generates a lot of heat that blows out from the front of the machine. We had placed the unit on top of our GentleLase (the big box older model) and had problems with the cryogen system getting too warm and causing "purge" errors. I've had to move the unit around to prevent this.
