Where can I get a spectrophotometer for skin typing?

How much are they?

I think Palomar Medical is coming out with one soon.
Palomar is supposedly coming out with one but the price is expected to be high. There are a couple of clinics around that make their own.

I recently looked at the palomar starlux. They quoted me $5,000 for the spectrometer.

Several years ago the Sona franchise provided a device called the "ChromoTest" they found in Europe. I purchased two and they worked OK. I believe they were about $2000 each. Now I have heard that someone is selling the device in the U.S. The device uses "near intrared interactance" to measure the light reflected off the skin surface. It does a pretty good job of measuring relectance before and after a Florida vacation, for example. My nurses got "hooked" on it and loved to have an actual "number" to rely on besides just their visual observation. I cannot believe Palomar charges $5000 each as it is a VERY simple device. Typical hyper-markup we are seeing in this industry.
I was doing a little research today and found derm reearchers are using 3 units for looking at the pigment and redness to the skin.

1. Minolta chromameter
2. Dermaspectrometer
3. Mexameter MX16

I am planning on contacting the companies this week. I hope they are less than $5000. We may need to make sure they are Ok to use in the US on humans not in the research setting. They are all made in other countries.

There's now a spectrophotometer for skin typing that's less than $1000 here: http://www.medicalspamd.com/the-blog/2007/4/9/dermatone-spectrophotometer-skin-typing-device-for-769.html

Anyone interested in doing a group purchase? It's 710/each if you buy 3 but I only want one. With all the new purchases I'm making, a $100 saving would help! pls email me if interested.

IF anyone is interested in purchasing one, I have a used one that works like new that I am no longer using. I would sell it for $450.00. I purchased it for $900.00.
