Physician to Physician Discussions > Where is medical spa training available?

Hello. I'm trying to find out where I can get training as a medical spa physician. I've just recently completed medical school in this field of nonsurgical cosmetic medicine seems attractive. I've found quite a few training events and seminars, but I'm looking for something more comprehensive. Hopefully, a program that focuses on the business aspects of medical spas in addition to just specific treatments. Does anyone know of one that they could recommend?

Finally! A refuge from the endless spamm you're confronted with on posting sites. Way to go MSO!

You're exactly right Finally. I'd given up trying to find anything useful online. It's degenerated into an endless stream of sites shrilly hawking their tawdry wares. If this site can keep the chest-beaters at bay (or at least at a comfortable distance) I shall be a loyal disciple.
I attended a workshop at the Esthetic Skin Institute that covers the business aspects of the med spa industry. I know they hold seminars in FL, CA and NY. It was $1k for a one day workshop with a CD of pt. forms and a textbook with some good info.
However, from what I have read in books and classes differs from the real world of setting up this type of business. You do need to have someone with a strong business sence behind you or take some business classes to help you see potential pitfalls. Fortunately in my situation my husband has a business degree from Wharton and employes over 5,000 people in several countries so he's been my rock in setting up my spa. My medical director is also fantastic who has an RN wife in this business that has mentored me and shared their experiences and mistakes.

Us medical people are not typically business minded and this can kill us. Every decision you make can have multiple consequences, some that you would never even have imagined. It's worth it to set yourself up correctly and take your time doing so to prevent future disasters.

I'd love to chat and share my experiences thus far.
There are numerous groups providing seminars.

EuropeLabs in Montreal is a good one

I posted this elsewhare but thought it relevant here as well. Sorry for the duplication but I'm lazy tonight. ChicagoMD

I also have attended numerous courses and events around the country. I've found that 'spa' label to be disconcerting at best. In browsing this site last night I noticed that Surface Medical Spas has gone public with it's "Physician Training Day". I'll chime in my two cents as someone who went out and spent a day there.

The Surface training day is absolutly the best money I have spent on any form of training since I begain investigating this market. The $14,000 I spend on spa experts was almost totally wasted. (I did learn how to talk fast and keep my hand out.)

Highly recommended by this Chicago Doc.

I am in TX, MD, tired of passing gas and thinking about doing aesthetics and building a practice eventually. Where can I do...does it have to be in physician office, or does spa have to be a "medical" spa and does that require some sort of certification? Help??? and thanx.
I am an Esthetician of 25 years who wants to find training for the latest medical spa treatments.I am in the Chicago Ill. area. I would like to work in a medical spa environment. I am now working in a very healing environment and I want to be able to offer non envasive procedures to my clients.Thank you

Chicago MD.....forgive my skepticism, but I have spoken to many so-called consultants and business esperts so I am a little disenchanted. Are you involved in any way (business, personal, etc) with "Surface Medical Spas"?.
Since the developer of this site appears to be the director of Surface, it is a potential conflict of interest to promote his company here. Just curious.

Does anyone have any experience setting up or working with a medi spa in Europe especially the UK?
Do you think the British are ready for this ?
Anyone willing to help set one up?

... Dr. beer's cosmetic boot camp .... ha.ha...

Hi, I have a question that someone on here may be able to answer for me.

I am an RN who has a license in the State of Ca. If I teach injectibles for a training institute and travel with them, am I allowed to do injections on models in the class setting with a 'model release'? This is for training purposes only, not for profit. I cannot find this information anywhere!

Thank you
