Physician to Physician Discussions > IPL+RF for hair removal in skin type III and IV
Hello Aaliyah,
The E-Light is not FDA approved for use in the United States. Furthermore- you get what you pay for. This device is available online through some suppliers for as little as $440. The competition is valued on the used market at an average of $25,000 or more. New lasers and IPLs, those which are FDA approved, cost an average of $70,000 or more.
Do not get into the business for the sake of making money. If that is your goal- the E-light is perfect for this type of practitioner. If you are in the medical field, are concerned about consumer cost, efficacy, reliability, and liability- purchase an FDA approved laser.
Although I have used 1064 wavelength for darker skin types effectively for over 10 yrs, I also have had great results with a Cutera 770 wavelength on an Opus platform for hair removal on skin types I- IV. The handpiece/filter is very similar to that of an IPL with a stronger wavelength. I have used a Syneron Elos Refirme for tightening and IPL w/ radio frequency for dyschromia, but can't imagine it would do very much for hair reduction.
Would not sue anything besides Diode (810 nm) or Alexandrite (755 nm) for skin type III and IV hair removal. Those two wavelengths will offer permanent results and the highest % of permanent hair removal. IPL can be fast, but does not deliver the same results. Cynsoure Apogee and Lumenis Lightsheer (not the Duet, the older version) are two great models.
I have a lot of experience with IPL & Diode Laser. I own a Palomar EsteLux; Ellipse SPT; Ellipse MicroLight; Cyden iPulse i300. Over the years I purchased "back-up" machines - with the RF. I can suffice to say that these machines have given fantastic results in skin type iv-v. In comparison to the enormous and over-inflated prices of the branded technologies for service and spares, these RF machines have proven to be very successful and economical.
The idea that making money with these devices is not the objective, clients are looking for results - and we have hundreds of satisfied clients. I give the thumbs up for RF + IPL.
Having previously worked for Syneron, the thought process was to turn the IPL "down" to the recommended setting and turn up the rf since it is color blind. I am now employed with Alma and would suggest our SHR mode in either AFT Pulsed Light or 810 Diode, which by the way is virtually painless when properly applied!
Does anyone have experience with E-Light (IPL+RF) for hair removal in skin type III and IV?
