Hey guys, I'm an Emergency Medicine trained MD looking to get training and certification in Aesthetic Medicine. I'm new to this and am needing advice on the best way to get started, what training is worthy or not, what certifications are respected or not, etc. Thanks so much:)

Depends on what you want to do. If you are interested in cosmetic surgery, I would do a cosmetic surgery fellowship. They are listed on the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery's website. They don't pay anything but it would be easy for you to moonlight due to your specialty. If you want nonsurgical training, American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and American Academy of Anti-aging medicine both offer fellowships and training in aesthetics by way of weekend courses and both are well respected organizations. Most physicians are not board certified in aesthetic medicine or cosmetic surgery and the public frankly doesn't seem to care although having board certification in SOMETHING is better than no board certification at all. I don't think it has hurt my competitors to not be board certified as surgeons, which I am and while that helps me, it's still a competitve market. I would definitely look at your market and see where you could find a niche that is not currently saturated.

what is your email?i will send you some info on training

The National Procedures Institute has offered some really good courses in the past. Maybe worth chacking out?

Hi! I'm new to this board and am also interested in learning more about resources. Does anyone have any thoughts about empire medical training? They have one day courses for starters which look interesting. Does one really need another board certification? Thanks for your help in advance too!
