Physician to Physician Discussions > Beware hidden fees in used cosmetic laser market
Well, Sciton and Palomar are among the better ones. Enter Cynosure...They don't even entertain giving you a warranty, parts, inspection, register, etc. if you buy from a third party. But their equipment are great. I would also buy from them with service from third party.
I would be interested in hearing what people want from FDA approved used lasers companies and service. My feeling is that they want top of the line lasers at afraction of the price with full service just like the manufacturer but cheaper. We in the business struggle with getting parts from manufactures and finding techs that can do the work properly. However, there are good service companies for refurbishing IPL's handpieces and lasers on a case by case basis. The bottleneck is parts.
I would be interested in anyone who provides quality service in the third party markets for Alma, Candela, Cynosure, Fraxel, Lumenis, Palomar, Sciton or Syneron. However, in some cases the savings for buying used equipment including the re-certification fees and service contracts can still save thousands of dollars. For companies with high re-certification fees buying a redundant used base unit may be the answer. If people would share their service experience solutions here then I think it will help the industry as a whole.
This is a business that can make thousands a day so on a average I am curious what people think "expensive" is. Thank you.

Beware of hidden fees in the used laser market. If you buy used cosmetic lasers from a broker I know for a fact that 2 companies charge a substantial fee to reregister/transfer ownership of your laser to you. Sciton charges $5,000.00 and Palomar charges $34,000.00. This transfer includes an inspection, but you are responsible for parts and labor if they find anything wrong. The companies WILL NOT waive this fee and WILL NOT sell you parts or dispatch a technician to service your laser unless you pay this transfer fee. I have this information directly from Dan Negis "President" of Sciton. I have 2 Scitons. One registered. Absolutely the best Laser on the market. Would have no other laser, but will continue to buy them used and not register. Shame. Great laser. Company... ehhhhh..
