Medical Spa Business Forum > Buying Medspa Equipment & Need Suggestions (Zerona?)

I've been asked to set up a “Wellness Center” and would love some suggestions on what you feel is your best investment for your office. I own all Palomar equipment and I'm happy with the results, except for the Qyag5 for tattoo removal limiting my color response. My equipment is from 2007 so I'm not up with all the new machines and I've never considered offering more than what I have; hair removal, pigment and vascular, spider veins, Fractional and tattoo removal. Zerona has been suggested by the people planning this venture but does it really work?

All suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Bridget!
At The Aesthetic Show in Vegas they discussed wellness centers in great detail. Their definition of a wellness center involved incorporating management of health into your aesthetic practice such as hypertension, diabetes, depression, hormone replacement therapy, etc. I know my husband, being an Internist, was happy to get away from all of that. So, taking that definition into consideration, we have decided not to become a wellness center. The only "wellness" service we have is our hCG diet program.

I don't know if that answered your question, but I think the equipment/procedures you were mentioning were more of aesthetic/medical spa in nature and not "wellness" per se.

Hi PY RN,

I know they plan on offering hormone replacement and doubt there will be a focus on diabetes. They mentioned Zerona and I think they may want Thermage and or a Fraxel/ Fractional laser. If I look at this as an Aesthetic practice with some wellness management then my hopes are to hear what is the preferred laser in an Aesthetic setting. Was there anything impressive at the Vegas show?

I appreciate your response and hope I'll hear from others.

I actually love the Vegas show because there are so many things going on and Wellness definitely was a topic. Executive health management was also another topic. Basically, the patient is medically managed by the wellness center's physician, then they offer anti-aging services like injectables, laser procedures, etc. Like I said before; however, going back to medical management is not something that's even on our radar!

Hello there,

I operate a MedSpa and sell laser devices including Zerona and the Lapex Lipolaser to MedSpas and medical practices nationally. Both are very effective and huge money makers.....especially for New Years resolutions!!

Feel free to contact me directly for clinical data that most doctors and business owners need to make an informed decision.

Fred,

I am sure you are aware of the many professional criticisms as well as general patient dissatisfaction expressed all over the web concerning these two low level laser systems. The units themselves are very expensive for clinicians and the cost of treatments for patients is consequently pretty high while the actual result delivered appears to be very modest at best.

This is not meant to be a criticism of you or your business. More, I am interested in knowing how you respond to these criticisms for my own personal education.

In the 15 years I have been using low level laser I have run across more than a little hucksterism and outright fraud associated with this technology. Despite that, for pain and wound healing (and a good many other things) I think it the best thing going. It does have genuine physiologic effect, and I would not be without it.

For aesthetic procedures I am much less certain of it's utility, especially given the cost of these units. I truly hope you will not be offended by this post, I really want to know more.
