IPL & Cosmetic Laser User Groups > "Laser Stimulated Hair Growth"

I have been doing LHR for 11 years, I have the Alex 755 and Nd:Yag 1064. I have seen a specific group of young middle eastern/Mediteranean female clients being treated on the sides of face and neck area that have increased hair growth. These women now have long thin hairs, often at jaw line to lower neck, places they did not have hair before we began treatment.
I have been adjusting my settings to a "shallow depth and high heat" with some improvement. (I read this suggestion somewhere on line)
Any suggestions on how to prevent this complication and/or how to "fix" it when it occurs.
I also do electrolysis and offer this as an option--they do not have stimulated hair growth of course with this option, but certainly slow and tedious.
Help!

I have seen this in the same types of patients and It's always in the areas you describe. I've read that it's triggered by using lower than optimal energy levels. It sort-of makes sense because there are lasers out there that use low level energy to stimulate hair growth in balding men. The only way I know to fix the problem is to treat the area with as high an energy level as you can for the patient and to use energy levels as high as possible from the beginning. I believe our consent form even warns of this problem.
