Hi, we have a sciton profile everything works fine, up until you connect the 1064 hand piece and then we receive the following error message:

"Fault #634"

It was serviced about a month ago, and our laser tech is currently our of pocket. Can someone tell me what this message means?

Thanks!

This message means a Pyro detector degrating.

Amanda,

There are very few third party servicers who properly calibrate Sciton Profile lasers. Sciton does not share service information, save for with a couple service companies who have requested the information using the 21 CFR request process. Unless your tech was from Sciton, he probably failed to properly align your 1064 head.

We have a 3 year old Palomar Starlux and several hand pieces. The IPL hand piece is at approx 65k pulses and starting to lose its zap a little. Nurses are reporting needing more passes, etc. I have contacted 3 independent laser techs listed on this site for possible refurbishing of a couple hand pieces and am checking their references. (We're not on a service agreement.) Does anyone have any advice about going outside of Palomar for service on the hand pieces or other success/horror stories about servicing our own gear instead of buying a new machine (which is what the Palomar rep obviously wants us to do.) BTW: the base unit is perfectly fine and we have no other issue at all. Thanks!

Claudio:

Palomar does not share it's service information with anybody. There are those who claim to service Palomar hand pieces- which are each a laser system of it's own, the base unit being a power and control unit- but all of these techs are by experience. They do not have Palomar service information in accordance with 21 CFR 1040.10-11.

This is the risk you take with third party companies. If they do not explicitly claim that they are completely compliant with FDA regulations, and they can prove it to you, you are simply gambling on service, as they are gambling on delivery of that service. Very few companies are completely open to the FDA as they are cracking down on Independent Service Organizations, and trying to tighten up on the laser manufacturers. To help you make a decision, ask about 21 CFR 1040.10-11. If they stutter, say "what?", or don't know what it is- they shouldn't be touching your laser or light based device.

We are a medspa located in Kentucky. Our lightsheer EP is giving error code P3, P5. We need to get it repaired from from third party as Lumenis says the machine is "Obsolete". Can we get any leads for a third party laser repair companies closer to our area? We have looked at some from google search but were not sure. Any help will be highly appreciated as we have some laser hair removal patients on hold.

Veinguy,

You don't need a local third party to service your Lightsheer. It is small enough to economically ship anywhere in the country. You should consider your options before sequestering yourself to local service.
