Cosmetic IPL Laser Reviews & Comparisons > Lumenis1

I now have the Lumenis1. Before I had the Cutera xeo platform. For hair removal on skin types 5-6 I used to use the coolglide (ND:YAG). With the Lumenis1 there is a ND:YAG which is not supposed to be used for hair removal. (why is that?). It also has the lightsheer which is designated for skin types 1-6 but there is also an IPL that is designated for skin types 1-6. Does anyone want to elaborate on the reasoning behind that. For now I will stick with the Diode laser for skin types 4-6. Thanks

I think that Nd:YAG is designed for vein treatment. My personal opinion is that it's not the best for vascular treatment. There are better Nd:YAG lasers in the market.Lightseer and IPL can also be used in hair removal, but the IPL can also be used for other procedures....

ggb26,

I was wondering why you did not ask these questions prior to purchasing the Lumenis1. Also, the Cutera Xeo is a very good system that has a coolglide NdYag in addition to the Prowave, Limelight and Titan. What made you want to go with the
Lumensis?

ggb26,
I have had my Lum One for over 2 years. I do not use the Lightsheer for Fitz 5-6 due the obvious risk of pigment damage. However, I have never been able to get anyone from Lumenis to give me the guidelines for the Yag for hair removal. I have worked with someone that uses a Yag for hair removal to get those settings. I have found that the IPL is not that effective for hair removal. I consistently use the Lightsheer. However, because of the insanely small spot size (9mm) I have quite offering large areas such as legs/backs because it was not cost effective since it took 1/1/2 to 2 hours. If I had it to do over again, I would have went with the Gentlelase for hair removal and maybe just got the IPL head. Also you are now limited and can only do one pt at a time with the Lum One. At first it sounds great but after using it for 2 years I would never get a "fully loaded platform" from any company. You loose money every day!
