Physician Clinical Exchange > Luminary Feedback: Who is Good and Who is Bad

Luminary Feedback: Who is Good and Who is Bad

Luminaries are pretty much unregulated. They get to say whatever they want and we presume they are being truthful, honest and looking out for our best interest. Many times they do Marketing Webinars where the prospects know nothing about Cosmetic Lasers.

Some Luminaries are not being honest and are a danger to us and our patients. They are a danger to our patients because they say things that falsely reassure us and they are a danger to our financial security because they promote lasers that do not work (not well enough to produce happy patients).

This blog thread will give us the opportunity to give feedback about the experts who we rely so heavily on and who are paid so well by the laser companies. There is huge conflict of interest with no oversight. It is time for more accountability and more transparency.

So who do you like and who do you dislike and why?

Have you ever heard a luminarie say something negative about a company that pays them. NO. Even those that work for the companies that sell garbage still will look you in the eye and try to tell you it is great. Many of these guys make more money off hocking lasers and doing "research" for the companies.

I feel most of them have sold their souls. They do not care about the patients or the physicians buying the crappy equipment.

I think one of the good ones is Dr. Werschler. I think he is out of Washington State. He is a very good injectionist. He has been at the Aesthetics Show in Vegas the last couple of years.

I am having a big problem with Dr. Mitch Goldman. That is Mitchel P. Goldman. Author of articles and textbooks. I have some strong feelings about what he has said about the Lumenis UltraPulse in his Webinars and in his personal communications with me via email. I believe that he is an arrogant person who feels he is entitled to mislead people and then ignore them (when they won't buy his book).

I will outline my problems with Dr. Goldman in my next few emails. These are my opinions-just one man's opinions. Maybe he is a great guy and I am just wrong about him. I don't think so, I really think he is a big prick. I hope he will come on this blog and give his side of the story. I am anxious to hear what he has to say! He seems to think he can say anything and then he is not responsible or accountable for his words. He won't talk to you unless you buy his text book or unless he gets paid by a laser company (and then I am not sure his opinions are not influenced by those laser companies that pay him so much). He thinks he is superior to the rest of us. Again, just my opinion. Just my personal experience with him.

He is the poster boy for a dangerous luminary who misleads and then abandons those he has mislead.

I think Dr. R. Rox Anderson is exceptional. I went to his Harvard Conference and his comments and insights were brilliant. One of his predictions about the future was that "The marketing antics of the laser companies would escalate until their credibility was zero (let's not join them)" -- I think Dr. Goldman has already sold his soul to them. He has zero credibility in my mind and I don't like him as a person. Again, just my opinion.

I have several problems with Dr. Mitch Goldman. You already know that I think he is a jerk.

He told me that DeepFx Density 4 is really 100% ablation. I have been told by Lumenis and multiple other sources that DeepFx Density 4 is 20% ablation. He refused to clarify. He told me to read his book (as if everyone has his Classic Tome). Now I am left wondering if he is correct and Lumenis is wrong or if he is incorrect (I think he is incorrect). This type of partial information without clarification and then abandonment is rude, dangerous and unacceptable. Dr. Goldman is incredibly arrogant. He thinks his poop does not smell.

I will outline my other problems in the days ahead. I have a few more.

Dr. Goldman will probably say I am stupid and a non-core and I should get a life and leave him alone, but I feel very strongly about this issue. He trains non-cores and he gets paid to do it. He gets paid to entice non-cores to buy lasers, so he had better not give me the "you are a non-core argument". He also gives out incorrect information during his webinars and then he is unavailabe to clarify and correct his incorrect information. This is also dangerous and wrong. I will give specific examples in my next post.

Just to keep this balanced. I love Jeffrey Klein. He is open, honest and tells you the truth even if it is negitive stuff about the SmartLipo and the smartlipo people are in the room. He is thoughtful, very bright and experienced. He is a rare breed in this field.

Jeff Klein offers the Lipo 101 course. It is absolutely the best course I have ever taken. He is intelligent and has not sold his soul to any company. He offers excellent detail as well as insight into procedures. He will also discuss specific cases with you if you want.

I wish all these guys were like Dr. Klein.

You add idiot, rude, arrogant lumenaries to jerk, idiot, arrogant executives and you get a brew which is headed for disaster (burns. blisters & scars). Lumenis has no medical doctors on their staff so they are like deer caught in the headlight. They don't know what to make of the fact that their manuals say 20% and Goldman says 100%.

Goldman does not respond. Ofer does not respond. They are both a disgrace to doctors and CEOs. See Lumenis: The SKoop to see more about how Lumenis functions (dysfunctions).

This plan will solve the problem of the "bad expert", "the bad luminary" like Dr. Mitch Goldman:

This is from The DeepFx Forum Thread:

Why we need written summaries of Webinars. Why we need discussion after Webinars. Why “the expert” has to be available for on-line Q& A after Webinars (Bulletin Board, not real-time). Why we need training Webinars in addition to Marketing Webinars. Why it would be nice to be able to download Webinars to our iPods for review in our cars.

We all need to become better providers of services and get better results which generate happy patients who refer friends and family to our practices. By having easier, more convenient access to the information in the Webinars and sharing our thoughts and experiences, we all learn more quickly and we avoid making the same mistakes made by others. In this manner, we gain access to “best practices” more quickly and the whole field evolves more rapidly. We want to use these Webinars as “Seminal Events” to stimulate meaningful “Clinical Exchange” of important information.

We hope to get the industry “Luminaries” to participate in these discussions. We also hope the Laser Companies will start to host these type of “On-Line” discussions after their Webinars and we hope the Laser Companies will start to host more “Continuing Education” Webinars rather than just “Marketing Webinars”.

Who is good and who is bad.
Let's have a poll.

R. Rox Anderson is GREAT!
Jeffrey Klein is GREAT!

Mitch P. Goldman has sold us out! 5 Thumbs down.

Most Cutera Luminaries have sold us out. Cutera does not work (except 1064 long pulse)

I thiink Chris Zackary, MD is great.
He says what he things.
He is honest and straighforward.
You can believe him.

Khalil Khatri, MD is also a straight shooter. He's a quiet guy but came out of Harvard and worked with Rox and speaks internationally alot.
