Esthetician & Skin Care Products > Cosmelan Anyone?

Hello,

I am desperate to get some answers to what I have to ask.

I purchased the cosmelan mask and applied it at home, left it on for 8 hours on Monday (2 Nov). Washed my face and applied the hydra vital factor k.

The following day, I used the cosmelan 2 and hydra vital factor k twice a day. On my fourth, fifth and sixth day (that's today) I notice that there is severe reaction on my face...there are patches of redness that look somewhat like rashes. I called the doctor's office and was advised by the nurse to cut down the usage of cosmelan 2 to once a day but I have to continue with the hydra vital factor least twice a day.

In desperation, I have decided to stop the cosmelan 2 for a few days until my skin condition gets better.

Prior to the cosmelan treatment. I had fair smooth skin, except for some pigmentations due to sun exposure during my vacation in the USA.

I am afraid that this treatment might damage my skin and it will not go back too being fair and smooth again.

Please advise!!!

I just want to say my melasma is coming back - i did melanage treatment about 5 months ago.Gigi you were right.I dont have any idea what else I can try... so ladies remember melanage is helpful just for awhile (5 or 6 months) after that this horrible brown patches coming back.

Hi, today is 12/27/09. I received the improved version of the Old formula, hence the 3rd version with the HQ. I believe you would also call this Cosmelan MD. received it at my doctor's office. Paid $850. I am asian with tan olive skin, tans easily. combo-oily.

Journal
12/23 got c1 applied at doc's office at 3 pm. He says to leave on for 12 hours so washed off around 4 am 12.24.
12/24 washed it off, omg my face was burning sooo badly, like I had 1st degree burns. Right side of face (upper cheek) looked like I had the worst burns. I was mortified. I went the the Emergency Room because I was not advised that this would happen.
ER Room says I got a chemical burn. Went to doc 4 hours later and he said I got irritation.
12.25 - super red in the face. Really tight. Could hardly open my mouth. I am advised not to go into the sun at all. So I wore a mask when I drove home for xmas.
12/26 - lots of peeling, first around the mouth. But skin is not as red as day 1. I am so relieved.
12/27 - more peeling, cheeks, nose and forehead are starting to crack, I anticipate that I won't finish peeling for another several days. Also, I have tiny bumps on my face. Also, a lot of blackheads are coming out. Skin is still rough.

12.28 | Unregistered CommenterHappyDappy

HappyDaddy, how is your face today? I did mine on 12/27, my face was really red for 3 days and the peeling was severe. It is only today 1/4 that it starts to feel a little better but I still have some peeling.

Hi this question is for Jen. Where did you get the dermalan? The anser to Maddie I got the old cosmelan done with Dr. Pilest back in May of 2008. I don't know if he still has it apparently he will always get the old cosmelan but don't know if that has changed.

01.8 | Unregistered CommenterJustina

i used old cosmelan was grate but new cosmelan didn't make any change also i used dermamelan and it didnot work either , so don't waist money on dermamelan

02.6 | Unregistered Commenterpam

I found a wonderful lady that recommended cosmelan in one of my trannings in San Diego ,I am an Esthi with horrible skin and I was SO mad casue How could I tell people to take care of their skin when mine was a mess after so much tanning ( before I got into skin care ofcourse! ) she uses the "old formula" from Spain and she only charged me $550 !!! I was a little concerned and happy about the price but its been 6 months and my skin never looked as good :). I live in San Diego Area but I had to travel about an hour north to see this lady ...nobody around here does it for less than $950 . She is in Riverside County

02.17 | Unregistered Commenterhanna

hi, I live in the uk and have been seeing my derm for a lil while now, she recommended cosmelan and im having the treatment tomorrow costing £450 in total which incluses a light peel tomorrow then the facial a week later which will stay for 12 hours, and cosmelan 2 and a follow up etc

she said that cosmelan changed its ingredients because it was too harsh on the skin and the "HQ" has now been identified to potentially cause skin cancer! she said the newformula is just as good but not as harsh it just takes slightly longer.... personally id rather wait an extra month to see results than develope skin cancer

il post b4 and after pics lets hope for good results x

02.24 | Unregistered Commenterreenie

also i dunno if this might help but... from what ive been told there are 3 types of cosmelan.... the old 1.. which was very harsh, then they made a newer 1 which from what i was told is absolutly crap..... then they made the newest 1 called cosmelan MD which is the "new" version of the "old" 1 which basically means its strong like the old 1 but doesnt give you as much redness/acid burn as the old 1 so just becare that your not buying the 2nd version....

hope this helps

02.24 | Unregistered Commenterreenie

Hanna - I was wondering if you could please give me the information for the lady who did your peel in Riverside County. Thanks

Anyone know where you can buy the Cosmelan MD online? Thanks!

Hello Melasma club,
I am a licensed, but not currently practicing, aesthetician. Is it possible to buy direct? Any aestheticians out there who know if and where I can buy Melanage directly? I want to try this because of all the Cosmelan drama.
Also, I had Cosmelan done 3 years ago, it worked well and I was very happy with the results. Of course, the brown spots came back with a vengenace. This will be a lifetime ongoing battle for all of us it seems.
Thanks,
Spa Diva

ok i finally had the mask put on today.... i was abit annoied because i could have bought the pack and put it on myself.... would have been alot cheaper! anyways it was on for 12 hours as instructed, when i took it off my face was quite red and quite sensitive but not peeling or anything .... ive applied the factor k and the cosmelan 2..... all i can do is hope the redness goes before monday :) lool

ive taken before pics and will take after pics in 2 weeks which is when i have to go back to the derm and have my second application!

also ive seen the full packs on ebay.com just type in cosmelan..... average price $350...... which in uk pounds is only 250ish compared to what i had 2 pay!

03.19 | Unregistered Commenterreenie

ok day 3... my skin is peeling like mad... its still very red and tight! but doesnt hurt as much! no way this is going by tomorrow but at least ive got 2 weeks off work! i can definalty see results already so far ive got about a 40% improvement on my acne scarring im still using the c2 and factor k my derm told me a little trick (especially if money is tight and you cand afford £150 c2 cream every month or so.... she said to use c2 for between 3 and 9 months (for me she has recomended between 6 and 9) and then buy a cream called SkinTech Blending Bleaching Cream its a silly name because it doesnt actually bleach the skin at all. This cream is used for hyperpigmentation (melasma) or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Contains kojic acid (the same as in cosmelan) and other ingredients that have known benefits for calming down the melanocyte. i actually used this cream before! it doesnt lighten the scars you already have by that much, but it stops production of the melanin which creates new dark marks and melasma, so its basically a cheaper maintenence cream for after ur melasma is gone and you dont want it to come back. and if your like me... who regularly get spots and then pop them... its a god send, as i was popping my spots (i know i shouldnt) but i wasnt being left with an new scars

hope this helps xx

It's been quite a while since I've visited or shared, but I am very excited about the product I am using, or should I say PRODUCTS. I've done new Cosmelan III w/ HQ. it helped lighten initially and while in phase II, started coming back. Then the nurse recommended I use the treatment with no HQ which was Cosmelan II, "waste of time." After $1,000.00, I gave up for the timebeing.
I was using over-the-counter products like Clinque's new product. I noticed my melasma getting darker, and that could be because it was bringing it to the surface, but got impatient and decided to give my Dermatologist a call. I was going to start Obaji system again, which is pretty affective, but it does come back because it's basically HQ 4% and Retin-A.
My Derm said she went to a seminar and they recommended this mixture. HQ 8%, Glycolic 10%, and Kojic 2%. Now for all you nurses out there, you know that combination packs quite a punch. But I'm not done.
I apply that specially compounded cream, (mixed by a pharmasist and in an airtight container so as not to lose potency) over .04 retin-A gel at night. Still not done.
In the morning, I wash and apply azelaic acid and then La Roche Pose Anthelios 60 sunblock.
Ahhhh. Now I'm done.
I am seeing great results. Not nearly as harsh as Cosmelan because you don't treat the whole face with the compounded cream, only problem areas. Another plus, the Retin-A which is applied all over my face is helping with fine lines. And the best part,...... the cost was under $175 including sunblock, which is a must.

And there you have it. I will keep you posted.

To gigi,

What is your background? I have been following this blog for the entire thread learning about new and different products currently available on the market and the best way to use each. I have found this a useful and informative site with real people giving their experiences with products (medical grade) in todays market. Then you tell us a aloe vera product available at any over the counter pharmacy works best. Can I get some physician feedback on Lilly of the Valley 99% aloe vera (posted 9/2). Should I be selling this in my business instead of these other products? If so, I feel sorry for all these people who have spent their hard earned money and wasted so much time healing and testing new products. Who knew the cure all secret was aloe vera available at any corner store for under $10.

03.22 | Unregistered Commentermedsparn

Was going to go for comelan mask, then melanage, then dermamelan... but now... 2 hours from reading it all from the first posting.... I will do nothing... I wish i could get WT's mixture.. but no place to get it done round here (sunny dubai) well... I just got a lotion Maxi-Peel Exfoliant (HQ 2% tretinoine 0.05 from splash corporation) will dab a little every night and see if it works along with 100 bioderma sun protection...
thank you all for your insights and advice

Hi Everyone:
I have been reading this thread because I've been looking to buy Cosmelan direct.
I have gotten the treatment done 2 times with amazing results! Yes, it only lasts 6 months, but those 6 months are butt-kickin awesome!! I am about to get married and possibly do it again....

I got the 1st formula the first time and, whoa, looked like an oompah-loompah for the first week. It hurt. Amazing results happened about 2 weeks later - but it was quite severe. My skin never looked so good afterward though! I've never had skin like that in my life!

The second time I got it done, it was the second formula. I didn't know it changed until the nurse/esthitician that did it told me they changed the formula so it was less severe. I am surprised no one has posted what I am about to say..... my awesome esthitician had a great solution for the milder formula... she used half the mask bottle as usual, left it on for 8 hours, blah... blah... blah.... then I went back one week later for a second mask with the remainder of the bottle. Amazing results!

I live in San Diego and go to NeuLook Spa. It is right off the 56 freeway in the Albertson's shopping center. The nurse's name is Gita. (pronounced gee-tah).

Hope this helps. I wish there was an overnight cure once andfor all - but this really works.

p.s. I'm going to try the Aloe Vera too though! Who would've known!!
The price was around $550 so there is no need to drive to Riverside people!

05.27 | Unregistered Commenterjenna

Jenna, I just got cosmelan yesterday in los angeles, and the nurse was adamant on only giving me half -jar. She said I should come back in a month for the second half. This is only day 2 and my face is quite red, so I cannot imagine what it would be like had the whole jar been put on!
Can you fill me in on the aloe vera comment? I scrolled through the 7 pages here but couldn't find where that was talked about. Should I be applying that now to ease the redness/ burning?

I am an African American woman with medium Carmel skin. I had a face full of acne scares from years and years (from puberty thru my 20's & early 30's) of fighting severe and painful acne. To clear up the acne, I was on everything from Retin - A, to antibiotics to Accutane. Accutane was the only thing that worked. It even removed the painful boils under my arms. Accutane at the time also cleared my scars so much that even the scars were gone. I was actually getting complements about how beautiful my skin was. (I was like......don't get pumped, I'm on the heavy drugs to get my skin this clear...LOL!) Anyway, after by bout with Accutane, which I took in my teens, the acne did reoccur in my late 20's only to find that due to the fact that I was in my childbearing years it wouldn't be such a good idea for me to take Accutane again. So I went on and got the Cosmelan.

I must tell you the Cosmelan was the greatest!!! Oh now I burned like hell and was in so much pain I couldn't laugh for a week. I took Tylenol PM for three days, and basically ate and slept for three days. As I was told by the nurse that applied it for me, it would take off the top layers of my skin down to the baby skin, that's exactly what it did. To date my skin is still gorgeous thanks to the Cosmelan 2 product. The original Cosmelan treatment for left on for 10 hours, and took about 4 weeks to finally clear up (while my fellow african-american sisters kept looking at me in pity like I had been burned for life, and was going to have to live with that burnt skin my entire life!...LOL!). Basically if you've had the correct Cosmelan 1 treatment, Cosmelan 2 will keep it up. Like a previous post said : Find a doctor that is a plastic surgeon to get your info from. Usually they will refer you to someone they send their clients to after their plastic surgery procedures, as Cosmelan can be used to smooth skin after a procedure.

06.9 | Unregistered CommenterTonie

I also suffer from melasma and what is hard to accept is that melasma is never going to go away, atleast not with any treatment currently on the market. Melasma is something that can get lighter with certain treatments but by daily living will return. The best way to approach it is to think of it as something that you have to "maintain" for the rest of your life. My melasma used to be really dark, it has now gotten much lighter through constant maintenance. I have done both the Cosmelan and the Melanage treatments. The Cosmelan did not work for me (yes it was the old formula) and the Melanage worked pretty great. Was the melasma completely gone, no, but that would be like a miracle, but I would say 75% improvement. So I get a Melanage treatment once per year, wear a good sunscreen on my face everytime I am outside and try to reduce the amount of sun I get on my face.

I am looking for a doctor who does the Melanage treatment in the Los Angeles area as it is time for my annual upkeep of melasma.....

I had cosmelan1 mask 8 days ago, I've been using C2 for last 7 days. Every time I use C2 my face burns ,my face is still
flaky, specially my mouth area and under eye area. It,s quite irritating.
Is it pretty normal? Shall I continue C2? I know some of my sunspots are fading but why is it still itchy,& flaky?
Is this normal?

08.17 | Unregistered Commenterak

I had the Cosmelam MD mask done 17 days ago and have been applying the C2 cream as directed, followed 15 mins later with the Vit K cream. Skin looks great EXCEPT my chin and jaw has rash like bumps and is completely takes away from the rest of my skin. My dermatologist told me to apply hydrocortizone 1% to that area but it isn't helping. Has anyone else experienced this and know what makes it go away?! The melasma is gone but now I look like I have inflamed acne on the lower portion of my face! PLEASE HELP!

Hi Everyone.

I was sceptical about trying Cosmelan bit did it becasue i am getting married and have melasma caused by the pill which I've had for about 4 years. started on my forehead and then moved to bridge of nose and top lip. And i HATED it.

So I forked out for Cosmelan, and to be honest, i was not prepared for how hectic it was going to be! They said my skin would be pink and slightly tight, but it was bright red, swollen and on fire for 4 days! I'm on day 6 now and the swelling is all gone and its done about 2 x peels and is still flaky. I must admit I was worried that i had done something awful and had ruined my face - BUT now it is recovering and I can already see the difference. My melasma on my forehead was very deep -almost 'under' the skin, probably dermal - the worst kind. and it is already much faded although still there. But the top lip and sides of nose is almost disappeared.

They say it takes a few months to really get it all out - and I am already much happier and getting better every day. So if you are thinking of doing it i'd say go for it, but just be prepared that the first few days are pretty horrible and you can't leave the house no matter what they say! I'm leaving the house for the first time today and I'm a bit nervous, as Im still quite red and flaky. But as far as the melasma goes - so far, so good!
I'll keep you posted!

I have been on the computer for hours trying to find information on treating hyperpigmented skin. I came across information on the Cosmelan Peel. I am african american and i was wondering if there are any African Americans who have tried this product. If so, does it work???? i am absolutely desperate as i have tried EVERYTHING ( including but not limited to, Palomar fractional lasers and a full face Dermabrasion {not to be confused with the Micro dermabrasion} ) needless to say the countless skin treatments i have undergone with no results, have caused my skin to age drastically (im 34 but i look 44) and the dermabrasion left my skin 10 shades darker than before the procedure. I have traveled all over the country seeing doctors who promise results, just to be disappointed time and time again. DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF ANY DOCTORS IN OHIO OR MICHIGAN THAT OFFER THE COSMELAN??? or are the only qualified doctors all in California? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Tracey, some African Americans have responded in this thread and reported that they had good results with cosmelan. I think you can go to cosmelan's website to find doctors that offer this procedure in your area. Good luck!

For everyone on this forum who is looking for the old cosmelan formula, I am glad to say that there are sellers on eBay that are selling the old formulation. Just type in Cosmelan, and there should be sellers that listed the older version of Cosmelan.

However, do this at your own risk. You can never be too sure what you're getting when you do not purchase directly from the company or from a licensed medical professional.

I hope this helps and good luck to all!

Hi there,
I'm based un The Uk and I in my day 10 of using Dermamelan, aparently Cosmelan and Dermamelan have the same ingredients but Dermamelan is more concentrated, the new formula must not work as good as the old version but I guess this is because they are using Cojik acid insteade Hydroquinone which is a cancerigen ingredient. Anyway Dermamelan meant to be aplied only by a dermatologist but I bought the kit but not any dermatologist wanted to aplied the mask to me so I did it myself, I followed the instructions from a video in yutube of cosmelan protocol. I had the mask for 10 hours according with my tipe of skin then the day 2 and 3 my sking was to red and swallen so I started to use the cream 2 on the day 4, on the day 4 I sterted to peel completly and now on my day 11 my face is still red, itchy and a bit peeling BUT the horrible patches in my cheeks and forehead that I havd for about 7 years and were worst after I had a baby have been disapear, I a few weeks I'll go to Australia where is summer now and I hope my face continous clean of pigmentation.

Hi Everyone:)

just started use the Cosmelan products and i've been following the directions exactly the way my dr. told me to...

Aiight, so here is my BIG question ! - i'm right now on my 17th day with C2 and the peeling is better but ofc. my face is still red and it still hurts when i use C2 - but it's okay. my problem is that on my 15th day with cosmelan i began to get some kind of prickly heat bumbs. This is freaking me out 'cause i never heard about anyone else having those symptomes?!

anyone have the same experience as me? the same symptomes? and should i stop with cosmelan ? what am i too do?? i'm so scared that these small bumbs won't go away :(

Tasch....

06.25 | Unregistered CommenterTasch....

Hi All,

I would like to share my experiences with the cosmelan. First time when I've used cosmelan I've ordered them from a clinic in bangalore, India and the results were amazing. After that, I've ordered for cosmelan cream 2(maintenance cream) from the same clinic and it is absolutely useless. I have found one more difference between the old and new formula's (apart from the yellow tint which was rightly mentioned in the earlier posts) usually the old one( the one which worked well) will have the date of expiry in European format(date/month/year example-31/05/2013) at the bottom of the jar whereas the new formula had the date of expiry mentioned only in month/year format( example-10/2014). I was so frustated with this new jar, so I went ahead and ordered from EBay this seller claims that it works like strong formula. I've received the cosmelan(shipped from mission hills, ca) and to my surprise the date of expiry was mentioned in European format. I 've started using it. Could you all please let me know how is the date of expiry mentioned on your Cosmelan jars?

Looking forward to hear from you people.

Thanks,
Siri.

Hi, has anyone ever purchased the cosmelan pack from Amazon? It was from a company called Cosmelanproducts.com in Pembroke Pines, FL. Not sure if it's authenic and if it's the new or old product?

07.12 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE % OF THE ACTIVE INGREDIENTS IN THE OLD STRONGER COSMELAN 2?
Maybe the R.N.'s or Doctors out there..

I KNOW THE MAIN INGREDIENTS ARE:
KOJIC ACID
PHYTIC ACID
ABSORBIC ACID
OCTINOXATE

BUT WHAT %?

Or maybe you know of a place where I can send the Cosmelan 2 to have it evaluated to see what's inside it?

I live in Mexico, you can't import Cosmelan here, it's banned, and Mesoesthetic has no distributors here. If you want to have it custom formulated it ends up costing about the same....I have tried a combination of 4% Kojic Acid, 2% Phytic and 3% Arbutin and it does absolutely nothing even though many formulaic pharmacies told me these were the %'s

The full list includes plenty of ingredients.. Azelaic cid, Salycilic Acid, Alpha Arbutin, Licorice extract and much more..
but I think they are small ingredients.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

Anne, can you please email your contacts regarding this post? kristentcu@hotmail.com

if you would like to know the contact information for a doctor in santa monica, los angeles that uses old cosmelan, please provide your email address and we can discuss. he doesnt need forum for publicity, in fact, he prefers not to have his name advertised. he does well among the celebrities and charges a bit more, but then again it works!! but, you have to get it done by him and in santa monica. he will not sell it and send it to you. it should be done under doctor care.

if you just want to buy via mail and do at home independently, i have a direct email to dr. krulig, who uses amelan....its the same thing. he is is south america and all he needs is a picture for diagnosis and he WILL send it to you. but my doctor will NOT!!!

so provide your email, and i will get back to you soon.

by the way, the number JAY provided in the above post for a doctor in orange county is a good doctor. i went to him, but decided to go to mine because it was closer. they both use old cosmelan. i also have a name in the universal city area that uses old one. she was way to far for me, but i keep her contact just in case my doctor runs out. apparently, its hard to get. it must ordered from spain.

hope this helps!!! now you will have 4 different contacts!!!!!!
