Skin Type: Pigment & Complexion > laser hair removal in ethnic skin

In my laser practice ,I have large numbers of patients with type 4 and type 5 skin for hair removal. I use cutera vantage with 1064 wave length. I am very disappointed with results for removal of fine hairs. If any one has experience with this unit and has different results, i would like to get some suggestions. Is there any benefit in reducing pulse duration to less than 10mm and lower the fluence. Also i have noticed an increase in neck hair growth while trating the facial hairs. Does any one else has similar experience?.Please share your experience.

I am not familiar with Cutera Vantage but very experienced in treating dark skin with long pulse 1064 Nd-YAG.What kind of spot size and pulse width do you start out at? How many treatments and at what intervals do you give??? What kind of outcomes do you see??

Cutera has a clinical "hotline", as a free support service. I don't have the number offhand, but it's listed on their website. Perhaps it's worth calling them, and discussing your treatment parameters & protocol. We've had reasonable success with the 1064 wavelength for facial hair reduction in types IV and V.

We have an Apogee Elite 1064. I have been treating myself (type IV) with 12mm spot, FL 25, PW 30, 4 week intervals with very nice results. As the remaining hair appears finer, it makes sense to lower the PW or increase the FL. However, you don't want to decrease the PW too much or you really risk pigmentation changes in darker-skinned individuals especially.
