I've noticed over the year Palomar is seldom discussed or mentioned except when discussing cost or as a stand alone machine not generating the pay off other machines can. All my equipment is Palomar and it would be of great help to find a few other users to compare settings and issues with. Any Palomar users out there??

I started using Palomar products when they first came out with the old Estelux models which were underpowered. The Medilux is a better platform and I've had as many as three. The nice thing about them is that, by comparison, there's not as much room for operator error as there is with some of the other platforms. (I especially dislike the IPLs that require you to float the head in gel to diffuse the energy.)

I have had several years experience with the Palomar Starlux systems and all the hand pieces. Great system. I have not used the Medilux, but I do know from people that own them that they are work horses, but lack the more advanced hand pieces. Estelux is basically worthless, won't even do a very good job often times on hair removal. What would you like to know?

I ca't figure out how Medilux would appear in my blog since I own a Star Lux 300 with a Lux G, R. 1640,1540 and a Q Switch Yag 5. Looking at getting an IPL/laser. Have looked at 500, BBL etc. 500 looks my best bet if it works the way I want it to. I am looking for advice from 500 users to confirm what the reps are telling me.

Here's the situation. GP clinic in a moderate sized town in Alberta. We intend to use the equipment out of the clinic until we need more space. We can use 2 rooms but using one is more realistic.

Here's the plan. Get a 500 with 4 ipl's, Add a 1540 + others when we can afford/use it. When we expand and get more room staff etc we thought we could buy another 500 base unit and have one for IPL and one for Laser expanding as we go.

Is this possible? Are there any flaws in the plan or better suggestions?

At least two people on this site have mentioned that Palomar typically charges about $25K to new buyers before they will cover a Star Lux with a service contract. I would find out if this is the case, and see if the other competitors you are also getting quotes from have a better program. Before buying a new device it is always a good idea to find out how easy it will be to re-sell in the event something unforeseen happens. Also, it is imperative to find out the cost of service after the initial warranty period expires. You would be amazed how many buyers overlok this, and then complain later!

You can also use the search engine on this site (located at the top) to find out what other doctors have said about other competitive devices.

Thanks med spa guy, We will certainly confirm the warranty issue, but I am pretty certain with a new unit the first yr is included. They do charge heavily if u buy 2nd hand. We probably would avoid that initially as we are starting up and could do with their help. As for resale I think they all stink and do their best to make it virtually impossible. The only possible valid reason would be they dont want older electronics hurting someone, however personnally I believe it is pure greed.

The other issue that worries me is who can we trust anyone not to go bankrupt, these companies must be hurting.

David, I bought all my equipment new from Palomar and the DO NOT charge $25 K to new buyers. You're spending enough as is. The following year their service contract is pretty steep. For 3 handpieces I spent about $14,000 to cover them and that wasn't full coverage, they have 3 tiers.
The handpiece for hair removal is good for 1 million pulses and then it's done. At least that is what technical at Palomar told me. Tech support and Clinical have booth been great. Their consumables are expensive but that's everywhere and they are few.

Feel free to contact me with any specifc questions or anything to do with Palomar. It is true that if you purchase a used unit on the open market that Palomar will charge a $25K to "inspect" the unit before issuing a warranty. So this is something that should be seriously consodered before buying a used unit. Cutera does basically the same thing as well. I have quite a bit of experience with the Starlux 300 and 500 systems and ALL of the hand pieces. I have been also using a Cutera Xeo platform quite a bit for the last year as well. The other wrinkle to this is we are Canada. Sciton supplies thru Clarion who will support 2nd hand Canadian scitons at a reasonable charge. They will not support 2nd hand from outside Canada. Clarion/Sciton have an excellent tech in our area and do onsite support. Palomar does depot support but guarantees next day replacement. Regrettably thay do not control the shipping people who may want to send it Via Inuvik!

Palomar has confirmed their charge of 30K to dust it off and sign a peice of paper! Fortunately for me we are looking at new although it is a black hole in any bank account. Because of my expansion theory Palomar looks the best option for us but we are considering others much to various reps disgust etc. I am kind of in a good-bad place. There are reasons why we want o move forward and why not to hurry. At least at the moment people are willing to discuss the various options rather than 'take it or leave it'. We have been deliberate in our choices and required Demo's and even trials with some success.

You also have to factor in the price of the handpieces in the future if you need replacement. I belive they can be very expensive to replace.

Yes the hand peices are gauranteed to 100K pulses. I have had a few go to the 250K plus range before having to replace the flash lamp. If you buy new they can be from $6K to 15K for replacements on the IPL's. The specialites can be much more.

Does anyone know what error code 069 is for Palomar Starlux 300?

Error 69 means Internal LampController Voltage Exceeded. Probably the Power Module would need service or replacement.
