IPL & Laser Treatments > Worsening of rosacea and long-term redness after IPL

Has anyone ever had the experience of a long-term redness reaction after IPL. I had 2 IPLs for rosacea, the second of which was 2.5 months ago. I had a bad reaction. My rosacea worsened, becoming much more red and itchy. I received a light v beam from another practitioner and the severe redness and itching on my cheeks is now under control. However, my nose is still red from the procedure. I can actually see the line where I wore the goggles, as the skin under the goggles is lighter and my nose is a different color. Also, I had some veins under my nose which are now 2 permanent red areas around each nostrils and on the side of my nose that itch and sting sometimes. They are not fading and are much worse than the original problem of a couple veins. Is this something that will resolve? What could cause this? Thanks for any help/opinions.alyssa

Alyssa,

The treatment for Rosacia might involve IPL. Pulse Dye Laser and/or Laser Genesis (1064) heating of the skin.

In addition, you can use tetracycline orally, Metrogel and Finestra topically.

I would suggest that you go to a dermatologist who uses lasers and ask them to treat you aggressively with medical management. The laser/light may have caused your rosacia to "flare".

Read all you can about Rosacia and make sure you are not doing anything which might make it worse (hot spicy food, alcohol, etc).

Hang in there, keep the faith and give it some time. The body is great at healing itself.

Good luck.
