We own and operate a medspa in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and do alot of hair removal with laser and IPL. We currently see alot of home use light devices for hair removal entering the market. Some from big consumer goods manufacturers such as Philips.

I am interested to learn from colleagues how they view this development and if they believe this will negatively those impact those offering professional hair removal services. If you look at the average technical profile of the home use device then what can we say is their capacity to remove hair? From my understanding I would suggest not more than stunting the hair growth. Which will result in a longer period of time before the hair grows back. The benefit being that one needs to shave less frequently. Will the consumer be satisfied with this?

If stunting hair growth is indeed the maximum result the home use device can deliver then I think it is a positive development for us professionals given we employ high caliber equipment capable of offering our patients significantly better results. And with all the consumer advertising these home use device companies are spending it means the audience for our services will also grow.

Can anybody point me to more info on this topic? I know Dr Peter Bjerring from Denmark has spoken on this topic at several congresses but unfortunately i was not able to attend his presentations.
