Hi, can anyone help? What would be a better investment for laser? Palomar's Starlux (Erbium), Emerge (Diode), or Copper Bromide. My clients are Asians with rolling acne scars or melasma. Thanks!

We have Cutera's 1064 Nd:yag. Its a workhorse, and we've had great results treating acne scarring with the laser Genesis, non-ablative skin rejuvenation. It also does laser hair removal, and laser vascular treatments. It can be used on all Fitz skin types. It may be a good option also.

For rolling acne scars we would recommend a fractional laser resurfacing. We chose the Sciton Profractional, but there are many out there that can do the job. The reason we chose the Sciton is that it can penetrate very deeply with larger holes, which makes the results more compelling. Of the three you mentioned the Palomar would be the best for the acne scars. We do NOT recommend any laser treatments for Melasma as many patients can get worse with laser (50% in our trials). We would recommend a high strength hydroquionone program (6% - 8%) with one month resting period after three months of usage.

I agree with KD about treating melasma with lasers. We've found hydroquinone to be the best for melasma as laser tends to make it worse.

I've used both the emerge and the Starlux. Both are great as long as you have the right parameters. The Starlux is better with more impressive results than the emerge. Amazing for scars and stretchmarks especially if you have the XD tip. As for melasma, we use the Starlux 500 with the 15mm tip. It works well especially if you combine it with some lightening agents. We use the TDF LMB (licorice, mandelic, niacinamide) in combination with that.

Hi rowena! Just curious- what home care products are you recommending for follow up? There is a product designed just for Global Skins that could be an effective adjunct to your laser services.

pyro, ii started recommending LMB pigment cream. A colleague of mine also recommended it. Will evaluate the results soon.
