Physician Clinical Exchange > Laser Treatments Post Filler Injections?
Usually, I perform laser procedures and IPL at least 3 weeks after administration of filler injections.
I advise my patients that it is better to have laser procedures first before filler injections. However, some of my colleagues administer these treatments on the same day.
When I attended a training on Fraxel, they advised that the heat may prematurely break the product down and if patients were consulting on both procedures, they recommended to perform laser first then administer fillers after they are healed. However, if they already have the filler, it is not a contraindication to do laser. It's still best to inform the patient up front before performing a laser procedure that the filler may degrade sooner
But is there a possibility that the product will break down?
I believe that resurfacing lasers and ipl devices won't contradict the efficacy of fillers as these don't penetrate the skin deeply. I've been doing this for years and I don't notice any significant difference.
Anybody who has seen and organized study of what treatment should be done first, please come forward. I haven't seen any.
What are your thoughts on performing a laser procedure (say for example a fractional skin resurfacing) after the patient had a filler injection? How long should be the gap before another treatment? Are there any risks associated?
