I do SmartLipo, and was trained to use oral sedation with Halcion .25 mg and Lortab or Percocet. Depending on the person and the length of the procedure, they may have 1-2 of each over a several hour period. Most people do well with this. I have had one person who became agitated and disinhibited with the halcion, and I switched to Ativan 1mg. As an Anesthesiozogist, I have a bit of an advantage in figuring out what to use and how to handle various situations. Remember that all benzodiazepines are actually anti-analgetic, and will increase sensitivity to pain, so you must have pain medication as well. Also the active metabolites will build up on you if you keep giving a little more to keep them on the table, and you will end up with someone unarousable at the conclusion of the procedure.
oops! that was Anesthesiologist! sorry for typo.

We are encountering a significant amount of patients requiring iv sedation during laser lipo. It just seems like the tumescent isn't really enough. Any suggestions?
