I am a seasoned esthy with many years experience working for myself. I am going into a 100% clinical relationship and am looking for more medical industry education. The term medical esthetician is used very loosly and incorrectly in my opinion. Where is an esthy to get more medical training??

I am an aesthetician. Purely and simply....I graduated from an Aveda Institute. I never had a desire to work in a salon or spa environment. I have taken the initiative to educate myself, purely and simply. I bought what books I could. I dug deep and networked with those in the industry to point me in the right direction. There are many "certification" coursed out there for thing like laser, chemical peels and microderm. It is up to you to push yourself forward and make your own name in this industry. I relied on my own education to propel me into a "foot in the door" position in this industry. i went into my first interview at a medical aesthetic clinic with NO hands on experience. I was, however, able to tell them everything they wanted to know about when, where, why and how about the service and products provided worked. It is FAR more important to know SKIN above all else. Any person can punch numbers into a laser....but if you have no idea what energy levels correlate with what skin types (Fitzpatrick) or how the wave lengths work, you might as well be working at ALC. Before I even worked in a skin clinic I was able to tell you what ingredient do what and why on the back of the bottle. Once you get that down, you will be unstoppable! I don't try to be something I am not. I will only ever be an aesthetician, i don't put myself on a pedestal. Regardless of how much money ( or lack there of) you have, there is no excuse to no reach for the stars. There is a reason I have succeed in this industry... @wil bailey: depending on the state you are in and based on the regulationss you need to go to school and become licensed as an esthetician in order to do any aesthetic procedures under the supervision of a physician! as i said it depends on your state rules and regulations. look it up on Google. goodluck!

The first step is to get your license. Post graduate education is more difficult to find. Most education being offered currently is through manufacturers which can be a really good thing if it's a quality line. Don't expect your physician to educate you, they want you ready to go when your hired. And be cautious of using "medical" aesthetician as most states don't recognize this. Research more! Good luck!

I started with getting my esthetics license in the state I reside in and was lucky enough to get training through employment at a plastic surgeon's office. It saved me time and money for going to another facility elsewhere. I may be a rare and lucky circumstance but it has worked for me. After the initial employment and training my resume is all experience because in the esthetics field that is what really makes the difference. Good luck :)

We are looking to hire an experienced licensed aesthetician. We have a new facility in a well-to-do area just north of NYC, about a 30 minute train ride from the city. The physician leading the medispa practice is doing toxins and fillers, but will be introducing a new exciting technology in the near future and the aesthetician will be trained to perform those procedures. The aesthetician will have her/his own following and will refer patients to the doctor, and the doctor will refer her clients as well to the aesthetician. The doctor also has internal medicine patients that would be referred to the aesthetician for skin analysis and procedures. The aesthetician will also reach out to local businesses, primarily beauty salon and health clubs, to market his/her services and the doctor's.

If you want to do facials, micros and peels in most states you need to be an Esthetician, However if you only want to do Botox and other injectables you don't need to be licensed and as a nurse you should be able to be trained to do so.
