IPL & Laser Treatments > Is laser a good idea for acne scars?
Our cosmetic dermatologists prefer Fraxel over fractional CO2 for acne scarring.

mosaic hp by lutronic ,is very efficacious.Almost all my patients experience improvement.

I have the Fraxel Re:pair and it is by far the best.

I would have to dissagree that the Fraxel Re:pair is the best. The statement made by gld is their opinion. The gold standard (in my opinion) is the Lumenis Ultrapulse but it comes down to the fact that fractionated CO2 is becoming the gold standard for the treatment of acne scarring. There are many fractional CO2 lasers available made by multiple manufacturers and they can all have similar results when used by a competent physician. Make sure that the person treating has significant experience with the fractionated CO2 laser that they have chosen.

There are multiple types of fraxel laser, there is the fraxel re:fine, re:store, re:pair, and now a dual fraxel that has the 1550:1927 dual wavelengths. Certainly the best for acne scarring is going to be the re:pair which is actually fractionated co2 laser. It also is going to have the most risk, and most downtime. Definitely would do only with a skilled operator (ie laser dermatologist) you get what you pay for, and since this is your little girls face, do not go cheap!!

gld, yes Fraxel Re:Pair is the most powerful but isn't it also the most painful?

StarLux 1540 fractional does wonders! No down time!

Yes Jaya, it's painful. But the risk is low, especially under the hands of a skilled and experienced operator. Downtime is approximately 1 week.

I have a son who has HMO that doesn't cover cosmetic procedures, but declined Accutane in his teen years; now at 24, he has lesions but have horrific scarring. Questions: 1. Which is better, series of fraxel treatments vs fractionated CO2 with more downtime? 2. If fraxel, how operator dependent is this? Aesthetic clinic by "good" MD but not Dermatologist at $250/treatment vs. Derm guy at $800/treatment. 3. Anyone in the Sacramento area or have a recommendation? He is willing to come to San Diego where I know great docs, but referral would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all!
