Cynosure: Elite, Affirm, Cynergy & Smartlipo > Q switch for yag
No, Q switch is actually a modality that comes with the laser. It means pulsing in a nanosecond pulse. The energy required to provide this are large, but the fluences are totally different than you would use on your Elite.
So for example, if I am removing tattoos with a Q switch yag, my settings may be in the 6 range depending on what mm handpiece I am using.
A q switch yag (I have the Affinity) will remove the blacks and dark blues quite nicely. The greens/yellows etc need a Q switch Alex.

Q switching is the amplification of energy by concentrating the population of photons in a lasing medium. The energy is released in a nano-second, and greatly increases the amount of energy released in drastically shorter periods of time.
If your laser is not q-switched, it would require re-manufacturing to add q-switching. This cannot be done with an existing model without violating 21 CFR 1040.10-11 and other FDA laws and regulations, nor without violating the rights of the Original Equipment Manufacturer.
In short, if you want a q-switched laser for tattoo removal, purchase one that is FDA approved and marketed to do so.
I know this is an older thread but I agree with the consensus here...
Q-switching isn't an added accessory or a simple switch...
If your system isn't q-switched you're going to need to get one that is.
But the q-switching should open up a whole new avenue for you in terms of indications that you can treat!
Good luck on your situation.
When it comes time to look into getting a new q-switch Nd:YAG system...there are plenty to choose from...I recommend Demo'ing a few before you buy...
When you get to that point please let us know who you are considering and I am sure people on here will chime in with their experiences...me included!
GOOD LUCK!

Any one have experience with Q-Switch for fungus toe nail treatments?

Otis, look up the Q-Clear by Light Age, Inc. It has several FDA clearances including clear nail for onychomicosis.

is q switching a device you can buy and add to your machine, or does the machine have to come that way? No clue here so could someone please explain to me how that works tech. wise. We have a cynosure elite 755/1064. I would like to be able to do tatto removal with it.
Thanks!
