Injectable Treatments: Botox & Filler Injections > Botox - Dysport freeze or fridge?

I've been keeping my Botox cold in a separate smaller fridge all along. Then I heard it's better to freeze between usage and have been trying this. I'm not sure. does anyone know if it's good/bad/ or no difference to freeze the Botox in between using.

I have been putting botox & Dysport in the freezer for storage for years. AS far as I know, there has been no problems storing opened and diluted botox / dysport vials in the freezer for storage. Due to the minute amount of dilution 2.5mL, All I do is to hold the frozen vial in the palm of my hand for 3 minutes, then the vial will be ready for injection. I use up my vial within a week so there has been no decrease in potency that I am aware of.

According to Allergan, the makers of Botox, the vial is frozen until it is diluted, and then stored in the refrigerator. It is not to be frozen after dilution.

Questioning the need to use Botox within 4 hours of reconstitution: a study of fresh vs 2-week-old Botox.

RESULTS: No significant difference was noted for any subject in the timing of onset or duration of action or the measurable reduction of forehead movement between the fresh and 2-week-old refrigerated Botox or between the fresh and 2-week-old frozen Botox. The subjects had a gradual return of muscle function over the 4-month follow-up period.

CONCLUSIONS: No measurable difference was found in the potency or duration of efficacy of Botox in the treatment of forehead rhytids after 2 weeks of refrigeration or freezing compared with fresh reconstituted Botox. When Botox, fresh or stored, is given at an adequate dose to cause full paralysis of the desired muscle, the duration of the muscle paralysis is dependent on the physiologic rate for the motor nerve to reestablish neural transmission.

This paper settles our questions. Drug companies want you to use more, buy more, so they can be more profitable. What you do is beside the question. I have done the above trial in my practice and have noticed identicle results. There are no perceived differences in fresh, diluted refrigerated, diluted frozen Botox if used within 2 week period. Due to the large volume of botox I do in my practice, I finish at least a vial of Botox per day and a vial dysport every 3 days.

I never freeze reconstituted Botox/Dysport. A couple of weeks ago, my freshly reconstituted Dysport accidentally froze (fridge was set too high by colleague). It was frozen only for 6 hours, so I defrosted it and thought I'd use it anyway. I used all of it on the same day. Today on my follow up appointments, I realised that it had no effect whatsoever. The muscle movement was the same as before the injections and I ended up with very dissatisfied clients. Freezing reconstituted Botox is a very bad idea.
