Solta: Thermage & Fraxel > Need help with eye shields for Thermage
Your best source would be the technical support and engineering of Solta in California. I would ask them.
I do not use a lubricant because I have the shields in for a very short period of time. I only have the shields in when I am treating within the orbit such as the eyelids. As soon as I am done, I remove the intra-ocular shields thus avoiding the need for the lubricant.
Dear Wellmd,
In my practice, We do thermage eyes with the plastic eyeshileds. They do not need lubricant. Just soak them in the solution used to soak contact lenses. Add some anesthetic eyedrops, make the patient roll his/her eyes while closed, then wait around one minute. After that apply the soaked eyeshield in contact lens solution and it will be completely tolerable, I promise you. I tried it many times. :)
There are different sizes of ocular shields available. How many different sizes do you keep in your office? And how do you determine what size of ocular shield the patient needs? How do you disinfect them after use? Thank you!
Thermage requires plastic eye shields for lid procedures, but now recommends against the use of lubricants with the shield because of possible heat build up. The shield manufacturer (OculoPlastik) recommends that I do use lubricant 'for patient comfort and safety'. Don't really know where to go with that. Any suggestions?
