Medspa Legal & Legislation > MediSpa Director

I have been asked to serve as a Medical Director for a medispa that does IPL, Botox, and fillers. What are the liabilities and reasonable compensation?

Check with your state medical board to ensure you know what your responsibilities are. Do you need to be on site when procedures are being performed?

Should you take this responsibility Blaine, you are liable for everything--and I mean everything that goes on the clinic. Even anything that happens beyond uncontrollable circumstances, it's on you. Any type of compensation wouldn't be enough. Your license and reputation is at stake here. Think about it.

Your state medical board as well as the state boards of nursing and cosmetology have guidelines regarding the licensing and duties of a medical spa director. I am hoping that the request you mention is from a physician group-as the case in most states is that non-physician personnel cannot own a medical practice. There are other arrangements for this type of business which can work both legally and ethically. What state are you in?

I welcome your feedback pertaining to Medical Directors.
I have a boutique spa employing me, myself and I. Other than being an Esthetician, I am also a CME (Certified Medical Electrologist) able to perform Laser and Light Based hair removal and electrolysis. I just purchased a Laser and will be using it out of my Medical Directors practice....she is a family physician that is wanting to be more "Med Spa". So, I will only be at her practice a few days per month with MY Laser, and the rest of the time at my own facility, performing treatments that do not require an MD. She has recently stopped accepting insurance (hence wanting to be more Med Spa) and offers hormone testing, bio-identical hormones and vitamin IV therapy. These are all areas that I will be able to refer patients to her. I have also offered to advertise her practice on my website and FB Biz page..
Summary...
* My Laser
* I go to her Office (only a few days per month) She doesn't have to come to me.
* Refer Patients to her
* Advertise her on my Website and FB page
So....what is fair compensation for her?
We are in Florida.
